Why we play: the Ludofun vision for 2026

When I started Ludofun in 2018, the Brazilian board game scene was much smaller. Retailers were few. Local publishers, fewer still. Most Brazilians who played anything "modern" had stumbled into it by accident.

In 2026, the story is different. But not quite as different as we''d like.

The market grew — but can grow more

Today we have roughly 180,000 active players in Brazil. Sounds like a lot, but it''s less than 0.1% of the population. In the US, the proportion is 10x higher. In Germany, 30x.

The difference isn''t cultural — it''s about access and familiarity. When someone plays a good modern game for the first time, they rarely go back to Monopoly without protest.

What Ludofun stands for

Our work:

  1. Reduce friction between the right game and the right person. Honest curation, clear description, present support.
  2. Treat localization as an editorial act, not a translation. Every word is chosen for cultural meaning, not dry equivalence.
  3. Build community, not just sell units. People who play together come back. People who play alone give up.

Coming in 2026

In the next months:

  • 3 launches we''re publishing with extra care — including our first original Brazilian title.
  • Community Player program getting structure: monthly meetups in SP/RJ/POA, free PnPs for every game, community-reviewed FAQs.
  • Ludomag becoming a real publication — you''re reading the second issue.

Thanks for being here.
